Men’s Health
Looking after yourself isn't something you should put off. We make it easy.
Men are less likely to see a doctor than women, and more likely to put things off until they become a bigger problem. At Neal Street Medical Centre, we want to change that. Our GPs provide straightforward, no-fuss care for men of all ages. Whether you are coming in for a routine check-up, something specific that has been on your mind, or a condition you have been managing for a while. No judgment, just good care.
What to Expect
Coming in for a men's health appointment is straightforward. You can book for a specific concern or simply ask for a general check-up. Your GP will talk through your health history, ask about how you have been feeling and run any relevant checks or tests. If something needs following up, your GP will explain what the next steps are and make sure you understand what is going on.
If you have not seen a GP in a while, that is fine. Our team is not here to lecture you. We are here to help you get on top of your health and feel good about where things are at.
How We Help
-
Regular check-ups are one of the best things you can do for your long-term health, even when you feel fine. Our GPs can check your blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight, and flag anything that needs attention before it becomes a problem.
-
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australian men. Our GPs can assess your cardiovascular risk, run the relevant checks and work with you on lifestyle changes or treatment if needed. We also offer a Medicare-funded Healthy Heart Check for eligible patients.
-
Type 2 diabetes is increasingly common and often goes undetected for years. Our GPs can screen for diabetes, help you understand your risk, and provide ongoing management if you have already been diagnosed.
-
We know these are not always easy conversations to start. Our GPs are experienced, straightforward and entirely non-judgmental. If something does not feel right, it is always worth getting checked.
-
Mental health affects men just as much as anyone else, but men are far less likely to seek help. Our GPs are here to listen without judgment and can put together a Mental Health Care Plan if ongoing support would help. You do not need to have everything figured out before you come in.
-
Our GPs can help with sexual health concerns including STI screening, erectile dysfunction and other issues that can feel difficult to raise. Everything is handled with discretion and respect.
-
Skin cancer rates are significantly higher in men than women, partly because men are less likely to get checked. A regular skin check is simple, quick and could make an enormous difference. We offer comprehensive skin checks at both clinics.
