Mental Health Support

Talking to your GP is a good place to start.
We are here to listen.

Mental health affects all of us at some point. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low, or just not quite yourself, you do not need to have everything figured out before you come in. Our GPs are experienced in mental health care and provide a safe, confidential space to talk through what is going on and work out the best way forward together.

The woman in floral dresses her hand on the other woman's shoulder, and they seem to be having a friendly, positive interaction in a well-lit room.

What to Expect

You do not need to come in with a clear explanation of what is wrong. You can simply tell your GP how you have been feeling and take it from there. Your GP will ask some questions to get a better understanding of what you are experiencing, and together you will talk through what support might help.

If a Mental Health Care Plan is right for you, your GP will explain how it works and what it covers. This usually takes a longer appointment, so if you think this is something you need, let us know when you book and we will make sure you have enough time.

Everything you discuss with your GP is confidential. If you are unsure about anything before your appointment, please do not hesitate to call the clinic.

How We Help

  • For many people, talking to a GP is the first step toward feeling better. Our doctors take the time to really listen, without judgment. Whether your concern feels big or small, it is worth talking about.

  • If you are living with depression, anxiety or another mental health condition, your GP can put together a Mental Health Care Plan for you. This is a Medicare-funded plan that gives you access to rebated sessions with a psychologist or other mental health professional. Your GP will work with you to create a plan that suits your situation.

  • If you need support beyond what your GP can provide, we can refer you to a psychologist, psychiatrist or counsellor. We can also help coordinate care between your GP and any other health professionals you are seeing, so nothing falls through the cracks.

  • For patients who benefit from medication as part of their mental health treatment, our GPs can discuss your options, prescribe where appropriate, and monitor how things are going over time.

  • Mental health care works best when you have a GP who knows you. We encourage patients to see the same doctor for ongoing mental health support so your care stays consistent and your GP understands your history.
